NSW: Specialist teachers appointed in the Hunter region

New Opportunity Classes for academically-gifted primary school students will be set
up in two regional areas of New South Wales.
Education Minister JOHN AQUILINA says the classes will be in the Hunter region at Port
Stephens and on the South Coast at Nowra.
In a statement, Mr AQUILINA says specialist teachers, trained to support gifted and
talented students will be appointed to the new classes for Years 5 and 6.
He says students will have personal plans to ensure their school work is interesting,
challenging and stretches them to their full potential.
Since 1995, 16 new Opporutnity Classes have been set up in 11 primary schools in the
Blacktown, Campbelltown, Clarence/Coffs Harbour, Liverpool, Maitland Penrith, Queanbeyan,
Ryde, St George and Wagga Wagga districts.
