VIC:Fourth death on Vic roads this weekend

MELBOURNE, Dec 18 AAP - A pedestrian who walked in front of a bus has become the fourth
person to have died over the weekend on Victoria's roads.

The 48-year-old Blackburn man died in hospital after walking in front of the bus on
Whitehorse Road in Mitcham, in Melbourne's east, about 9am (AEDT) on Friday.

He was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital, where he died on Saturday.

A 19-year-old Berrigan man died after his car hit a tree following a brief police pursuit
in Victoria's north on Saturday night.

The man had sped away when police tried to pull him over as he drove through Cobram about 9.55pm.

Police briefly gave chase but called off the pursuit when the car reached excessive speeds.

Minutes later they were called to the scene of an accident in which the man's car had hit a tree.

A man in his 30s was killed on Sunday morning after his motorcycle collided with a
tree in the state's east.

He died at the scene after his motorcycle crashed over an embankment along Briagolong
Road in Stratford before 9am.

He became the seventh motorcyclist to die on Victorian roads this month.

A 68-year-old motorcyclist was killed on Saturday when he crashed while travelling
with a group of 20 riders in Beech Forest, in the state's south.

Victoria's road toll stands at 277, three deaths more than at the same time last year.
